A Senior Specialist for Staff and Faculty Formation in the Office of Mission and Ministry is a member of the team, working collaboratively in service of our departmental and university mission.

The Office of Mission and Ministry animates the Catholic, Jesuit, and humanistic mission and identity of Gonzaga University. The department’s core functions are to facilitate mission education and integration, foster faith and spiritual community, form reflective and discerning leaders, provide spiritual and pastoral care, and embody solidarity and kinship.

Specifically, a Senior Specialist provides skills related to her/his/their formation and academic training. This role is primarily focused on preparing faculty, staff, and administration to advance Gonzaga’s mission in all its dimensions. Key duties include program creation and implementation, teaching, consulting, mentoring, and strengthening relationships for the good of the university’s mission.

This is an 11-month position. Position is open until filled with application review beginning 01/09/2023.

Program Management and Implementation (45%)

  • Coordinate mission formation programs for employees. Programs may include: multi-year formation pathways, orientations, workshops and seminars, reading and discussion groups, lectures and panels, retreats, and other spiritual programs.
  • Demonstrate creativity in program enhancement and development through research, collaboration and discernment.
  • Design new and update existing programs in alignment with departmental goals.
  • Integrate Ignatian Spirituality and Jesuit mission into programs.
  • Oversee and implement programmatic areas as assigned by supervisor.
  • Maintain professional and accurate documentation and records including participant information, program manuals, presentations, and reports.
  • Develop processes for intentional and strategic recruitment of participants.
  • Advertise and market programs and events through appropriate channels.
  • Assess programs and events following departmental standards for program evaluation.
  • Ensure programs and events follow risk management protocol.
  • Maintain program budget, purchase necessary materials and monitor expenditures.

Mission Consulting (25%)

  • Provide consultation to committees, departments, colleagues, and programs with respect to Jesuit & Catholic identity and mission integration.
  • Serve as a content expert, developing and facilitating mission-based content in partnership with other university areas (i.e., orientations, workshops, etc.)
  • Create and amplify resources that make connections between Gonzaga’s mission and the intellectual life; focus specifically on resources for faculty, including opportunities to develop pedagogy, curricula, and advising skills.
  • Create meaningful and relevant mission-based resources for employees specific to their department, academic unit, and/or role.
  • Support the Division of Mission Integration in building relationships with academic units and staff departments.

Participate in Departmental and Divisional Initiatives (10%)

  • Actively collaborate with team members and campus partners to discern and respond to missional needs
  • Contribute to the operations of the department and division
  • Collaborate with the Office of the Vice President for Mission Integration in support of formation for administrators, and other university leadership
  • Support initiatives across the department and division as necessary

Promote Mission Identity through Collaborative Leadership and Accompaniment of Campus Partners (10%)

  • Provide spiritual leadership and accompaniment to staff and faculty
  • Bring expertise and energy to bear on realizing the priorities of Gonzaga’s Mission Priority Examen, especially the “Jesuit Identity Initiative.”
  • Contribute to university communications on topics related to mission, identity and/or spirituality.
